Abstract
pite of introduction of new pharmacological therapeutics, many types of cardiac disorder progress toward heart failure. Five-year survival of patients with heart failure is less than 50%. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and beta blockades are well-known agents with survival benefit. However beta blocker administration is limited in end-stage heart failure due to negative inotropic effect, and survival benefit in these patients group has not been proved. In this experiment, we use ovine heart failure model and evaluate the effects of combination therapy of ventricular assist device and beta blocker on cardiac function and myocardial structure. The results will provide the basic concept and applicability of future novel therapeutic modality in end-stage heart failure management.
